Technical Measures To Care Tet Apricot 17/07/2021

MSc. Huynh Kim Ngoc

When the bare branches of apricot trees show off their rough trunks, and then slowly emerge with green flower buds or pinkish leaf sprouts, everyone knows that spring is coming. The apricot tree has been associated with the Vietnamese people. Apricot symbolizes prosperity, happiness and good luck. Apricot has a delicate and graceful figure of a Bamboo tree, but it can also have the majesty of a pine tree or a cypress tree. For a long time, the hobby of playing apricot has been known by many people, to have a beautiful apricot tree that blooms on New Years Eve, beautiful flowers, and lasts a long time need a year of care. To create a beautiful apricot tree shape, it sometimes takes 3-5 years to succeed. The technique of growing apricots is absolutely necessary for those who play or do business in the Tet season.

1. Watering:

In order for apricot trees to bloom in time for Tet, watering is a very important factor. Each locality, each region has the rainy season and the dry season change, irrigation water must also change accordingly.

- Potted plants: In the dry season watered twice a day, in the rainy season watered once a day.

- Soil crops: In dry season, watered 1 to 2 times a day, rainy season can be watered once every 1-2 days.

It should be noted that in both cases when the rainy season is coming to an end, it must be soakingly watered every day until December of the lunar calendar to gradually reduce the amount of water for irrigation, watering once every 2 days to prepare to pluck apricot leaves.

2. Weeding:

Pull up weeds regularly to avoid weeds competing for nutrients with apricot trees, on average every 45-60 days/ time

3. Prevention of pests and diseases:

Pests:

- Stem borer: This is the type of worm that causes the most damage to the tree, lack of observation, apricot tree is easy to die from branches or the whole tree, every morning observing the garden should notice whether there are wood pulp around the base of the apricot tree?, if yes, consider the trunk with small holes, more or less quantity, poke holes with zinc wire or use insecticides to pump directly into the worm holes. The best preventive measure is to use 4GR or Sago super 3 GR to spread the soil every 3 months.

- Hoppers, aphids of all kinds: Like hoppers, mealybugs, etc. The sap sucking causes the leaves to turn yellow and die. It should be noted that aphids and aphids are vectors of viral diseases. Therefore, attention must be paid to prevention, if there is little, you can use Osago 80 WG at the indicated dose, if there are too many hoppers, mix Osago 80 WG + SK Enspray 99 EC, observe if hoppers die, then stop.

- Other leaf-eating worms such as diamondback moths, Parasa Lepida, etc. Spray insecticides such as Secsaigon 25 EC, Fenbis 25 EC mixed with mineral oil SK Enspray 99 EC, etc.

Diseases:

- Pink fungus: Quite dangerous for the tree, the fungus burns the leaves, die back, use: Saizole 5SC or Vanicide 5SL

- Fungi that burn leaves: Use Mexyl MZ 72 WP, Alpine 80 WP.

- Micronutrient deficiency disease: This is a physiological disease caused by plants needing microelements of Bo, Mg, Mn, etc. Borozinc, Fertigonia can be used, etc

4. Taking care of apricot after Tet:

Although the apricot tree can tolerate a wide variety of soils, it cannot tolerate alkaline soil and waterlogged soil. Therefore, it is advisable to choose loose, fertile soil with a suitable pH of 5.5 or more. If the plants are grown in pots for a long time, they can replace the soil with Peat 1 clean soil and add rotten organic fertilizers such as Japanese chicken manure.

If planting apricots directly, you can choose light or medium loamy soil, make beds, make a well drained trench before planting. Do not plant in low-lying areas, to be easily waterlogged.

To prevent, in addition to plowing and burying weed seeds, collecting weed stalks and stumps left after tilling the land to burn, not letting weeds produce seeds in production fields, etc., the use of chemical products is still a measure. optimal because of its ability to thoroughly kill weeds, reduce labor and take advantage of more time than manual weeding. To prepare for the coming Summer-Autumn rice crop, we would like to introduce to you a very new product of Saigon Plant Protection Joint Stock Company, which is Butoxim 5GR. This is a granular product used for spreading by Saigon Plant Protection Joint Stock Company in research, production and distribution.

Miner has the scientific name Phyllocnistis citrella Staint., family Phyllocnistidae, order Lepidoptera. The  miner occurs in many countries in the tropics and subtropics. The main host of the miner is the citrus family - Rutaceae. In addition, the miner also attacks mangosteen and some other plants.

Adult is a small planthopper, with a body 2-3 mm long, the whole body is ash gray, slightly greenish, the wings are opaque with many small brown spots.Eggs are oval, 0.3 mm long, have a pointed end and are attached directly to the leaf surface, leaf axils.Larvae are very small, oval in shape, newly hatched are bright yellow. Age 2 and age 3 are in green. Age 4 and age 5 are golden brown and 2 small wing sprouts.

Green bugs specialize in the fruit of citrus groups (oranges, tangerines, lemons, grapefruits, kumquats...), some people call them orange bugs, or orange suckers. Their scientific name is Rhynchocoris poseidon or Rhynchocoris humeralis.

In Vietnam, yellow leaf curl disease is very common on papaya trees, especially the disease is often severe in areas of high and continuous planting, areas with hot and arid climates. The disease has significantly reduced the yield and quality of papaya. Gardens that are infected early when the plants are young may not yield. However, up to now, many gardeners still do not know the cause and how to fix it.

Spider mites are common pests on citrus trees, especially in hot and dry climates that are suitable for spiders to grow and cause severe damage. The group of harmful spiders is usually very small in size, unlike the natural enemy spiders.Spiders have a very short life cycle, high reproductive ability, create many generations in a year, so it is easy to break out into epidemics in a short time.

This group includes species that are generally very small in size, causing damage by sucking plant sap (on leaves, fruits, branches, stems).

There are many species of mealybugs present on the group of Oranges,Tangerines,Grapefruits and Lemons (Citrus), which can be divided into 2 groups:

+ Group of sticky mealybugs with common varieties such as Lepidosaphes, Aonidiella, Coccus and Saissetia.

+ Group of flower mealybugs with common genera and species such as Pseudococcus, Planococcus and Icerya purchasi.

Dry branches and berries disease often appear to be common damage on coffee gardens during the rainy season. The disease causes death of branchs, dry fruit, severely affects the canopy structure and coffee yield if not paid attention to prevention.

Pink disease commonly causes diseases on rubber plantations in the rainy season, especially on garden from 4-8 years old. This year, rubber has to go through a period of severe drought, weakening the tree, so now in tnshe rainy season it is easy to get infected. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to good management to avoid affecting the garden.

In recent years, the area of citrus has been expanded because it is a fruit tree with high economic efficiency. However, in order to sell at a high price, not only in quality but consumers also require the external beauty of the fruit, so pest management on citrus is a matter of great concern to farmers. The hot season is a favorable condition for thrips to develop and cause damage, affecting the commercial value of fruit.
