Management Of Weedy Rice In The Rice Field 05/08/2021

BSc Tran Thanh Tin

In the production of wet-rice agriculture, people in the Mekong Delta face many difficulties such as: Affected by weather, harmful organisms, people also have to face another quite serious pest, which greatly affects them. to the yield and quality of rice that are weeds, especially weedy rice.

Most farmers know the dangers of weedy rice, but eradicating them is quite complicated and expensive, but the efficiency is not high.

PHYSIOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF WEEDY RICE.

- An important feature of weedy rice is that the seeds are easy to fall off.

- Dormancy of weedy rice seeds can change and persist in the soil, so the vitality of weedy rice is often much longer than that of cultivated rice.

- Weedy rice is an annual weed, the seeds that fall on the ground before and during rice harvest will contribute to damage in the next crop.

- Weedy rice reproduces and grows very strongly, directly competes for nutrients and light with cultivated rice, reducing the yield of rice.

- Weedy rice has a short growth time, ripens earlier than cultivated rice, the seeds are easy to fall, forming a source of residual seeds in the arable land that can grow at any time.

- If the rice field is mixed with weedy rice from 35% or more, the rice yield can be reduced by 50-60% and the infection rate will be worse for the next crop.

In order to kill weedy rice without affecting crop yield, farmers need to use measures such as: Thoroughly tilling, planting, harrowing, raking, flat field surface, collecting weedy rice in the field before they drop the seeds            , using purebred rice varieties etc..

So, to prevent weedy rice, you need to take the following steps:

- Before sowing about 15 days, pump water into the field to soak for 2-3 days, the purpose is to lure weedy rice and many other weeds to hydrate and germinate, then drain the water to keep the  field surface with enough moisture .

- Spray Saicoba 500EC (Active ingredient of Acetochlor 500g/l) with a dosage of 1.0 -1.2 liters/ha, mix 100ml -120ml/25-liter-tank for 1,000 m2.

- Saicoba 500EC is an internal herbicide that absorbs through the shoots and roots of the weeds when the weed is newly germinated

- After spraying Saicoba 500EC, from 2-3 days, water into the field to soak continuously for 6-7 days. Then drain the water out to dry, no puddles, plowing, harrowing and sowing normally.

Attention:

- Isolation period from spraying Saicoba 500EC to sowing is at least 10 days.

- Before making the soil for sowing, it is necessary to drain water out in the field, avoiding puddles that will affect the rice sprouts.

- After sowing rice 1-2 days, spray Venus 300EC germicide, dosage 1.0 - 1.2 liters/ha, mix 70-80ml/25-liter-tank, spray 1.5 tanks/1,000 m2, to manage weedy rice better. In the field, it is necessary to have a layer of slurry to help the product spread evenly on the field surface

The effect of spraying herbicide Saicoba 500EC helps a lot for farmers, good management of weedy rice, greatly reducing Saicoba 500EC the amount of weed seeds in the field. It is recommended that farmers use the product to control weedy rice for 2-3 crops continuously to help significantly reduce weedy rice  , thereby reducing costs in rice cultivation and increasing crop yield.

SAICOBA 500EC kills very well seeds of weedy rice and weed seeds

To prevent, in addition to plowing and burying weed seeds, collecting weed stalks and stumps left after tilling the land to burn, not letting weeds produce seeds in production fields, etc., the use of chemical products is still a measure. optimal because of its ability to thoroughly kill weeds, reduce labor and take advantage of more time than manual weeding. To prepare for the coming Summer-Autumn rice crop, we would like to introduce to you a very new product of Saigon Plant Protection Joint Stock Company, which is Butoxim 5GR. This is a granular product used for spreading by Saigon Plant Protection Joint Stock Company in research, production and distribution.

Miner has the scientific name Phyllocnistis citrella Staint., family Phyllocnistidae, order Lepidoptera. The  miner occurs in many countries in the tropics and subtropics. The main host of the miner is the citrus family - Rutaceae. In addition, the miner also attacks mangosteen and some other plants.

Adult is a small planthopper, with a body 2-3 mm long, the whole body is ash gray, slightly greenish, the wings are opaque with many small brown spots.Eggs are oval, 0.3 mm long, have a pointed end and are attached directly to the leaf surface, leaf axils.Larvae are very small, oval in shape, newly hatched are bright yellow. Age 2 and age 3 are in green. Age 4 and age 5 are golden brown and 2 small wing sprouts.

Green bugs specialize in the fruit of citrus groups (oranges, tangerines, lemons, grapefruits, kumquats...), some people call them orange bugs, or orange suckers. Their scientific name is Rhynchocoris poseidon or Rhynchocoris humeralis.

In Vietnam, yellow leaf curl disease is very common on papaya trees, especially the disease is often severe in areas of high and continuous planting, areas with hot and arid climates. The disease has significantly reduced the yield and quality of papaya. Gardens that are infected early when the plants are young may not yield. However, up to now, many gardeners still do not know the cause and how to fix it.

Spider mites are common pests on citrus trees, especially in hot and dry climates that are suitable for spiders to grow and cause severe damage. The group of harmful spiders is usually very small in size, unlike the natural enemy spiders.Spiders have a very short life cycle, high reproductive ability, create many generations in a year, so it is easy to break out into epidemics in a short time.

This group includes species that are generally very small in size, causing damage by sucking plant sap (on leaves, fruits, branches, stems).

There are many species of mealybugs present on the group of Oranges,Tangerines,Grapefruits and Lemons (Citrus), which can be divided into 2 groups:

+ Group of sticky mealybugs with common varieties such as Lepidosaphes, Aonidiella, Coccus and Saissetia.

+ Group of flower mealybugs with common genera and species such as Pseudococcus, Planococcus and Icerya purchasi.

Dry branches and berries disease often appear to be common damage on coffee gardens during the rainy season. The disease causes death of branchs, dry fruit, severely affects the canopy structure and coffee yield if not paid attention to prevention.

Pink disease commonly causes diseases on rubber plantations in the rainy season, especially on garden from 4-8 years old. This year, rubber has to go through a period of severe drought, weakening the tree, so now in tnshe rainy season it is easy to get infected. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to good management to avoid affecting the garden.

In recent years, the area of citrus has been expanded because it is a fruit tree with high economic efficiency. However, in order to sell at a high price, not only in quality but consumers also require the external beauty of the fruit, so pest management on citrus is a matter of great concern to farmers. The hot season is a favorable condition for thrips to develop and cause damage, affecting the commercial value of fruit.
